From the ranks of ComedySportz Philadelphia, Philly’s premiere improv comedy troupe, comes BAD HAIR.
BAD HAIR is written and performed by Kevin Dougherty, David Dritsas, Nathan Holt, Don Montrey, Jason Stockdale and John Zak. In addition to being veteran ComedySportz members, they have individually worked for some of Philly's best and most respected theater companies including The Wilma Theater, The Arden Theater Company, 1812 Productions, The Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, InterAct Theater Company and Philadelphia Theater Company. It is the combination of the theatrical and improvisational backgrounds that influences their shows, by presenting sketches, videos and live original music with a professional, theatrical sheen.
BAD HAIR started as the brain child of three members of ComedySportz Philadelphia. They were looking for alternative performance opportunities and believed that their talents and the talents’ of their ComedySportz cohorts went beyond improvisation. BAD HAIR was born.
Since its inception in March 2002, BAD HAIR has performed in a number of incarnations. First as a group of male performers, then as a well-dressed group of male performers and finally adding the all-important keyboard accompaniment to become a well-dressed group of male performers that sings.
The group prides itself on a commitment to developing interesting comedy, mixing the satirical with the absurd; the clever with the goofy. Their material originates from just about any source—news media, literature, pop culture, improvisation, everyday conversations or the warped corners of their brains—pulling the rug out from under seemingly identifiable sketches, keeping audiences surprised at every turn.
BAD HAIR has been entertaining audiences for over three years in various venues in and around Philadelphia including The ComedySportz Midnight Cabaret, The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, The Five Spot, The Shubin Theater, Azuka Theater’s Azuk-A-Thon, Ursinus College, 1812 at the Angel and The Rotunda at The University of Pennsylvania. They have performed in Delaware at 4W5 Café, Theatre N and 3 Little Bakers as well as the 2006 Chicago Sketchfest and Juvie Hall in New York City. |
